Mid-week Manna: Thursday, November 14, 2024
The local news reported that New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy declared a state of emergency due to the lack of rain. DROUGHT! After nearly six weeks of sunshine, there is no sight of rain as we enter the second half of November. New Jersey residents are encouraged to practice water conservation.
I couldn’t help but think about a time in biblical antiquity when the land suffered because the Sovereign God held back rain. See I Kings chapters 16 – 18 NKJV
Furthermore, I couldn’t resist the thought that there could be parallels; climatologically and spiritually. Global warming is the first choice when we look for answers to the atmospheric anomalies. The bible points us to the root cause of the devastating suffering and loss of life, creation and property. America and the world suffer from a sin problem. It sounds judgmental, perhaps dogmatic, or down right negative. However, the word of God leads me to draw the conclusion that we suffer for having rejected God! Judges 2: 11-13; 17:6, 21: 25; Revelation 2:1-4
Further study of the lives of Israel, Elijah, Ahab, Jezebel, have been recorded for our benefit on many levels. The base level lesson is obvious; perhaps not. Nevertheless, the drought was an attempt to get God’s people to consider the direction in which they were headed: from the leader to the layman. Husbands and wives. Sons and daughters, Neighbors and friends, coworkers and church folk have been affected in an effort to get our social, national and international attentions.
It is interesting that the fires of the West coast are now being mirrored through the tri-state area. Lives lost. Livelihoods severely compromised. Livestock destroyed. Crops reduced to ashes. What will it take for us to cry out in repentance for forgiveness of the sin of rejecting God.?
Part of the answer rest squarely on the shoulders of the true church. We must galvanize with one accord. With one agenda. That God be glorified and that His will be done. Genesis 18: 24- 33; 2 Chron. 7:14; Matthew 28: 19-20, interceding on behalf of a world that appears to be determined to destroy itself. Rather than lament the outcome of the elections, we would do well to remember that the weapons of our warfare are not carnal. Paul encouraged: PRAY WITHOUT CEASING.
1 Thessalonians 5:17 James wrote: The effectual, fervent prayer of a righteous person avails much.
James 5:16b Jesus taught: Love one another. Later He directed His people to be One, that the world may
know that the Father has sent Me.
John 17:21 -23 He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit is saying to the church.
