Morning Manna: October 28, 2024
During a visit to a nursing home, I encountered a man in a wheel chair sitting outside at the exit
door. As I walked past him, he asked “can I sing you a song?” My curt answer was ‘no”, and
attempted to make my way to my vehicle.
The Holy Spirit (not something told me), arrested me in mid stride. I walked back a few steps
and, “yes, please do”! In the night air of August in front of the nursing home, the man began to
sing one of the great hymns of the church: “I won’t complain”.
His voice was outstanding. On pitch. A Capella. Beautiful. Compelling. ANOINTED.
I was taken as the Spirit of God ministered to me. When he finished singing, he revealed that he
sensed that I was a man of God. “I felt led to encourage you,” he said. WOW! How did this
stranger, bound to a wheelchair know? We never met. Moreover, how does one minister
(serve) another person when they are in need of ministry themselves?
I was in awe of the power of the Holy Spirit. He met me at the point of need, through someone
who had needs! I thanked him, prayed with him, and returned to my car with a different
attitude.
There are several lessons to glean from this experience.
1. We should never be too busy that we can’t’ give attention to another human being.
2. (really #1), Jesus knows all about our struggles, there’s not a friend like Him.
3. We are always on display. You never know who is watching us. We should be prepared
to serve at a moments’ notice as the Spirit gives direction and opportunity.
4. (really #1a.), There is nothing the Lord won’t do to get our attention; to show us love,
correct, direct, comfort, protect His own!
Do not forget to entertain strangers, for by doing so, some have unwittingly entertained angels.
Hebrews 13:2 NKJV
There’s not a Friend like Jesus. No, not one!
