For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities against, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places Ephesians 6:12 NKJV
SIX WAYS WE FIGHT
- IN PRIVATE. Jesus came aside as the occasion called for rest, reflection or refueling Luke 5: 16. We must come aside as well for the spirit led control of:
- Mind
- Body
- Spirit
It is in the coming away from the crowd, the demands that weigh us down at times, the unnecessary chatter, that enables us to hear clearly, receive explicit direction, and engage in warfare with the confidence of success.
- WITH PRAYER and PRAISE. The two most overlooked weapons in the Christian arsenal are prayer and praise. They work most effectively when they are used together. Prayer, supplication (supply), with thankfulness Philippians 4:6,7
- WITH PERSISTENCE: We fight persistently. Never retreating from the issue(s) at hand. Trusting that we will be heard and answered in God’s time
Mark 7: 24 – 29; Luke 5:16
- WITH PRINCIPLE: One of the reasons Jesus became flesh and dwelled among us was to provide an example of how to fight the enemy of our souls
Psalm 119:11, 105; Matthew 4: 1-11; 2 Timothy 2:15
- WITH PERTINENCE [RELEVANCE]: The battle will be won when we:
- focus on the concern(s) as they present themselves
- communicate with the Lord openly, honestly with transparency and humility
- remember the end game is that God is glorified! Nehemiah 1: 4-11; Matthew 6:33
- FIGHT WITH PURPOSE: Our responsibility is to engage in warfare for the sake of our selves, our families, communities, country, world and most importantly, the kingdom of God.
We fight with power from the Holy Spirit. We fight to protect what God has entrusted to our care.
The Apostle Paul wrote to the church at Corinth in his what is considered his second letter:
The weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty in God for the pulling down of strongholds, casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ, and being ready to punish all disobedience when your obedience is fulfilled
Romans 1:16; 2 Corinthians 10: 5,6.
The six ways to fight points were taken from a teaching presented by Rev. Carlton Byrd in 2016.
The commentary is humbly submitted with reflection and prayer from Dr. Samuel M. Wright, Jr.
